Dear North Toronto Basketball Families.

Recently, we were informed by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Permit office that our gym permit fees would be increasing. We were surprised and disappointed by the late notification in mid August that not only would the fees be raised, but that we had been moved into another classification. The net effect of the changes is that our permit fees have increased by almost 400% for this upcoming season!
While there had been some prior discussion regarding the fee increases, the size and late notification of such has come as a surprise. As you may be aware from news reports, other organizations that provide sports and recreational opportunities for their respective communities have also seen increases of this magnitude.

Rest assured that we are working with Basketball Ontario and other organizations that have been adversely impacted by the TDSB’s unilateral action to try and seek a better outcome than the one being imposed on us and others in our community.

As a result of the TDSB permit fee increases, the North Toronto Basketball Association will be running a deficit this year. This will be offset by a numberof measures including using our surplus that we have diligently built up over the years, increasing Rep Fees, optimizing gym usage and re-examining other revenue generating activities to try and maintain the affordability of our community sports offering. As House League fees have already been paid, we will not increase them this year but will have to moderately increase them next year.

In addition, we remind you that the North Toronto Basketball Association offers sponsorship opportunities that will not only help us defray part of these cost increases but also allow you the opportunity to promote your business to the North Toronto community and beyond. Please check out the sponsorship page on our web site.

We thank you for your cooperation in this manner. We strive to bring the best possible House League and Rep basketball programs at a reasonable cost to all.
We would also ask you to have your voices heard by contacting our School Board Trustees and other influential members that can influence this decision. The contact information for the trustees is as follows:

http://www.ntbasketball.com/?p=998NTBA Community Update (November 2013)

Dear North Toronto Basketball Families & Friends,

Welcome to the 2013/2014 season !

House League play has been underway for over a month, several player/coach clinics have been held, a number of Rep teams have already played games – the season is indeed underway.

The NTBA Board continues to strive to offer a high-quality basketball program while controlling often-increasing costs.  The Board is pleased that Jason Sealy again leads our Player and Coach Development Program (see Announcement: NTBA High Performance Coach).  We hope that this program can build upon our organization’s past success and take us to the next level.

We are also excited to announce that Elite Basketball Camps has again joined the NTBA Community as a sponsor for the 2013/2014 season.  Elite Camps has been running basketball programs across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) for 15 years and provides quality instruction by experienced coaches for male and female athletes ages 5 to 16.  Watch for Elite Camps to visit our gyms later this year to share more information and/or see www.elitecamps.com.

The NTBA is a non-profit organization that relies on coaches and organizers who contribute their time on a voluntary basis.  We are grateful to our sponsors, Boston Pizza at 40 Eglinton Avenue East and Elite Basketball Camps, who assist us in defraying the escalating costs of sustaining and building a high quality basketball program.  We encourage members of the North Toronto Community to patronize our sponsors and consider the sponsorship opportunities offered by the NTBA.  Please visit the sponsorship page on our web site (Become a Sponsor) for more information.

Finally – as a volunteer-led community-based organization we are interested in adding new members to our “working” Board.  Board members have specific responsibilities, meet four times a year and spend many hours inside and outside of the gym in support of our program.  Some basketball knowledge is required as well as organization and people skills – as well as a commitment to the NTBA and our community.  If you think you have what it takes, please reach out to a Board member to discuss further.

Thank you – have a great season !

On May 6, 2012, the North Toronto Huskies accomplished the ultimate prize in Under 19, Ontario rep basketball…a Junior Women’s Elite League (JUEL) Championship title. They earned it with a gritty 61-49 win over the previously undefeated London Ramblers at the University of Waterloo. The win was a sweet one for Huskies Head Coach, Jason Sealy, who was proud that the players moving on from his program, ended off on a high note.“Every win is a great win. It’s a great way for our 7 graduates that are moving on, for them to end things. Winning this for them, is the reward at the highest level. ”
